EAI International Conference on Innovations and Interdisciplinary Solutions for Underserved Areas

Societies living in underserved areas face multifactorial problems  — energy, water, climate, food, health, education, transportation, social development, economic growth — that are not amenable to separate single-discipline investigation, but require collaboration many types of expertise. Today, there is a consensus that the tasks of solving the grand challenges facing people in underserved areas is not only multi-disciplinary; it is an inter-disciplinary as well. Interdisciplinary Solutions is a conference dedicated to the advancement of interdisciplinary solutions to address people’s needs in underserved areas. It will annually bring together technical experts and researchers from academia, industry, and government all around the world to discuss novel research results related to Innovations and Interdisciplinary Solutions for Underserved Areas.

The first edition of the conference will be held on April 11-12, 2017 in Dakar Senegal.

News:

We are happy to announce the collaboration with the African Journal of Science, Technology, Innovation and Development.

AJSTID is a multi-disciplinary and refereed international journal with a special focus on science, technology, and innovation in developing economies, with a special reference to Africa. It has been established on the basis of the recognized role of innovation in the development of economies and on the relative absence of research in the area, particularly in the case of Africa. AJSTID seeks to encourage research along three broad streams. This first is the role of science, technology and innovation in the process of industrial growth and development. The second stream concerns the broader area of socio-economic development. The third invites work exploring the inclusion of innovation and knowledge in cross border integration processes particularly in Africa. AJSTID will solicit submissions on both these research streams at various levels: firms, sectors/industries/clusters, regions and countries.

*Please note that: Paper will be invited to be submitted to the journal subject to 30% change in the text, new title and new abstract.

NEW SPECIAL SESSION: Special Session on Development Innovation Learning and Innovation in Learning.

Development discourse emerged in the 1940s alongside the idea of innovation. Innovation meant technology transfer from particularly Western countries to non-Western countries and Africa in particular. Since then learning approaches have been developed to support the diffusion of foreign technologies. From the end of 1980s, and for Africa from particularly the 2000s, a radically new approach to technological change has been establishing. This approach is not only systemic, but also at its heart lies the idea that learning is central to innovation and thus technological changes. Read more…
